Located in Ikebukuro, on the basement floor of Sunshine city is the permanent Sanrio cafe! Filled with cute plushies, art, and wallpaper, you are instantly greeted with cuteness! The Sanrio Cafe in Tokyo is a place you need to eat at if you like everything cute!
They have so many different kinds of food on their menu, but the take-out and dining menus are massively different. You can only get one or the other, meaning you cant order from the take-out menu while dining in. If you want the full Sanrio Cafe experience. I recommend dining first, and then after you are done, order at the take-out area. There are even seats in this area that you can relax and eat at!
They have all kinds of take-out food, already prepared food to food that they will make on the spot. Foods range from crepes, drinks, donuts, muffins, and even ice cream. I had the Kuromi ice cream at a Sanrio pop-up store in Odaiba and it was so delicious and cute!
We decided to check out the dine-in option to immerse into a full Sanrio cafe experience to see what cuteness awaited us. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by the overflow of Sanrio characters all over the walls and decorations. Most tables have plushies sitting with them to enjoy the meal together.
A lot of times, theme cafes lack taste due to prioritizing looks over flavor, but this cafe was different! The food was delicious! The burger was so juicy and filling and the fries were crispy and the extra powder on it made it have a unique savory taste. We were able to choose between the 3 different kinds of burgers, beef with Mexican sauce, Beef with BBQ sauce, and fried seafood. We were also allowed to pick our favorite character to put on the bun from either Hello Kitty, Kuromi, and Hangyodon. I chose Beef with BQQ with a Kuromi Bun. My friend got the fried seafood with the Hello Kitty buns.
Kerokerokeroppi Dojima Roll
It reminds me of something that would be in animal crossing but this is real life! This item is also available for take-out. Everything on the roll is edible! The decorations were made from monaka, a type of wagashi, a family of Japanese confections traditionally. The cake portion is dense yet soft, and very moist. The matcha was quite strong and was not overly sweet and went well with the cake portion.
Overall Sanrio Cafe in Tokyo Experience
Overall, the Sanrio cafe was such a fun experience and I really do recommend it to any themed cafe lover! My friend also enjoyed the food so much that she also agreed that this is a place we would want to come back to!
