I was strolling the Hongdae area with an empty stomach, and as I was walking down the main Hongdae Street road, I stepped into a road off the main road to see if I could find anything interesting. I usually eat breakfast at the hotel, but on that particular day, I jumped outside from the morning to explore Seoul. While strolling around, I bumped into Bibili, an All You Can Eat Bibimbap in Hongdae where you can create your own bibimbap! Bibili is a great place in the heart of Hongdae to eat till you are full!
When you are on the road to Bibili, you can’t miss it. There is a huge sign that says 8000 won unlimited Bimbimbap. I walked downstairs into a basement that led me to a vending machine in front of me by the restaurant’s entry. I put 8000 won into the machine and received a ticket which I exchanged for a bowl and I was greeted with a buffet-style counter.
You can grab your favorite ingredients from the buffet line and make your own bimbimbap. It is all-you-can-eat rice, with more then 5 options of vegetables, meat, egg and sauce with soup and kimchi as sides. I appreciated that I could put as much or as less as I wanted for a fully customized Bibimbap. One of the biggest aspects of Bimbimbap is kimchi, but as someone who is allergic to Kimchi due to the fermented shrimp that is used in Kimchi, I always had to throw away a huge chunk of the bowl.
I appreciated that I could put as much as I wanted for certain things and omit certain foods. This is a great option for those who have food restrictions or are picky eaters. I am allergic to Kimchi, and since kimchi is a big part of bibimbap, it always was sad to scoop it out to another bowl or napkin.
Remember that this isn’t a classic bibimbap experience, and the best way to experience Bimbimbap is on a hot stone bowl. If you are in Korea for the first time, or want to enjoy a good Bimbimbap, I recommend trying somewhere else since Bibili’s buffet selection is a little cold and not the tastiest. Bibili is great for anyone on a budget who wants a big meal. It is also very foreigner friendly and the staff is nice and will help you out if you have any questions. However, be sure to not take too much food, if you can’t eat all of it, you have to pay a 2000 Won fee.
The seating area is big and spacious, and it also has free wifi so is a great place to plan your day. There is also a water dispenser in the restaurant. Once you get your first bowl, you can go back to get more food as many times as you want. Make sure to take advantage of all-you-can-eat buffets and make sure you are full.
